Warrior competition dance team members took first place in the Metro Conference Meet Monday at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls.

The Highsteppers won Pom by 32.5, scoring a 275.5; Hip Hop by 18.5 points, scoring a 276.5 and Jazz by 15 points, scoring a 283 to earn Grand Champion with a 278.33 average.

Senior Alyse Dockter, a member of the dance team, said she was very impressed.

“Over the year we have had some struggles and have improved tremendously,” Dockter said. “With only one competition left, we will be working super hard this week and next week to perfect each routine. I am so proud of how far we have come this season, and can’t wait to dance one last time with this team.”

In cheer, the Warriors took fourth with a 229, after having 10 points of deductions. O’Gorman won with a 239.5, followed by Brandon Valley with a 236 and Roosevelt with a 233. Lincoln finished fifth with a 140.

Junior Sarah Snelling, a member of the cheer team, was also proud of her team Monday.

“We brought a lot of energy to the floor last night, though our deductions got the best of us,” Snelling said. “We’re going to work hard and make sure that doesn’t happen at state.”

All that remains for the teams now is the state meet Oct. 21 at Stevens High School in Rapid City.
