Oral interp team members were in the fall spirit as they competed in the Pumpkinsteaks Competition Saturday in Watertown where pumpkins and gourds were awarded as prizes.
At the event, senior Kirby Kennedy and freshman Jack Hinrichs took first place in Novice Duo—taking perfect first place rankings and perfect speaker points in each preliminary round, and then taking first in the finals.
Kennedy said he was pleased.
“We’ve had a lot of success and we worked really hard so far and I hope it continues,” Kennedy said. “Our goal is to make it to nationals, and I also hope we make it to state.”
In other action, junior Rahele Megosha took third place in Varsity Storytelling and junior Sabina Kaiser sixth place in Varsity Poetry.
Seniors Skyla Sanders and Maci Drenth took third place in Novice Duo.
Coach Michelle McIntyre said the team is preparing for the end of the first of their two seasons this year, soon.
“We have this weekend off, but next week we compete here at the Warrior,” McIntyre said. “We are assembling two Reader’s Theatres—something we’ve never done before. We are also starting to set our sights on State—we have two regular season competitions left for the interp squad to demonstrate who will represent us at that event in December.”
